West Kent Archaeological Society was established in 2009 and is run by a small group of enthusiastic individuals that are interested in archaeology.
Whether you are experienced in archaeology, or looking to try the discipline for the first time, we offer opportunities to get involved through membership. Archaeological projects that are available include field walking, metal detecting, resistivity geophysics, digging test pits and trial trenches. Unfortunately, due to our limited resources, we are unable to run large digs although we are happy to assist with these types of projects that are being run by other groups or societies.
Our area of interest is West Kent, primarily the Darent Valley, however, we are prepared to move outside this area to assist other societies, groups, landowners and members of the public with resistivity geophysics, metal detecting and field walking projects. For the geophysical surveys (this can include training) we do require a small fee of £50 per day to cover the equipment insurance, contact us for details.
We welcome new members and you are never too young (under 16 accompanied by a responsible adult), or too old to participate.
To join us – membership of WKAS is £15 per year and concessions are £10. We all renew our annual membership on 1st April every year. There is a membership application form on this website where payment can be made by Paypal.
